2026 Encouragement Award from the Journalism Research Section (DGPuK)
At the conference of the Journalism/Journalism Research Section of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK) in September 2026, the 2026 Sponsorship Award was presented to Anna Kuschezki. The award is worth 2,000 euros and is made possible by the Ludwig Delp Foundation. As the Section stated: “We extend our warmest congratulations to Anna Kuschezki from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, who impressed the jury with her concept, the high relevance of her topic and her clearly structured plan. Congratulations on the award!
Her research project, “Organisational decision-making and implementation processes in dealing with digital violence against journalists”, is a sub-study of the doctoral thesis that Anna Kuschezki is undertaking in collaboration with Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the Bauhaus University Weimar.
The project examines how media organisations in Germany develop, introduce and embed measures against digital violence within their organisations. The focus is on the questions of which factors influence decisions for or against specific protective measures, what challenges arise during implementation, and how gender-specific forms of digital violence are taken into account in this process. The study is based on structured interviews with decision-makers from private and public-service media organisations. Theories from organisational research are drawn upon for the analysis. As part of the doctoral thesis, the findings of the study are intended to contribute to a better understanding of how organisations deal with digital violence and to support media organisations in developing effective and sustainable protective measures.
