Challenges to democracy in times of its regression: times, spaces and discourses
DemoReg
The Hessian research network DemoReg is inter- and transdisciplinary in nature and combines theoretical, empirical and practice-orientated research. The aim is to establish sustainable democracy research in Hesse in the long term - among other things by setting up a Hesse-wide centre for democracy research to promote exchange between academia and civil society.
The overall aim is to establish long-term democracy research that uses a historically-informed perspective to work out explanations of democratic regression as well as the scope and possibilities for action for overcoming democracy.
The Philipps University Marburg and the Goethe University Frankfurt are jointly responsible for the project. The University of Kassel, the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the Institute for Social Research Frankfurt am Main, the Sigmund Freud Institute Frankfurt am Main and the Hesse Democracy Centre are also involved. The Normative Orders Research Centre is involved in terms of personnel.
Research question of the research network
In general, the DemoReg sub-projects focus on the following questions: What exactly does the diagnosis of democratic regression mean and how can it be empirically substantiated? What explanations can be given for such a finding? What strategies can be developed to counteract regressive tendencies?
