ScienceFriday: Qualitative methods

In May 2026, the various qualitative methods and their application were the focus of our monthly ScienceFriday meeting

Do you want to grasp reality as accurately as possible or understand why it is the way it is?

This was just one of the questions discussed at Science Friday on 8 May in Dieburg. In addition to the basics of qualitative research - i.e. aspects such as transparency, emergent design, reflexivity and inductive or deductive procedures - the workshop with Pia Helferich focussed on the basic philosophical assumptions that underlie and determine the respective methodologies.

In the further course of the workshop, the focus was on the concrete application of individual methods and possible focal points when coding texts/interviews.

The next ScienceFriday will take place on 12 June 2026 again in Dieburg (F01.310). All young scientists and interested parties at h_da are invited. The ScienceFriday is a joint event of the Institute for Communication and Media (ikum) and the Research Centre for Digital Communication and Media Innovation (fz dkmi) at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

If you would like to attend but are not yet a dkmi member, please let us know in advance (email: geschaeftsstelle.fzdkmi@h-da.de).
